VietNamNet Bridge – Nguyen Nhu Huy, curator and art director of local popular art space ZeroStation, has said the upcoming art event “The In/Visible Station” is expected to attract nearly 20 curators and artists, experts, and critics from Asia and 25 young artists from Vietnam to meet one another and join a one-year project.

The project, initiated by ZeroStation and sponsored by the Japan Foundation Asia Center, is aimed at connecting local and foreign artists, Huy said. “Through this project, Vietnamese artists can meet, exchange and carry out art projects together with foreign partners. They don’t need to go abroad to show their talent.”

The project will host talks, seminars, art experiments and product launches in new and free fashions. For example, a seminar will not take place in a room but artists might walk on a street and exchange with each other and record

discussions to show to spectators and other artists. Or there will be talks at cafés or street food shops to make arts friendlier and more accessible to people.

Huy said Vietnam has many talented artists, so ZeroStation will help connect them and instill confidence in them. Via the project, Huy wants to turn Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand into three stations of contemporary arts.

Some prominent Vietnamese artists joining the project are Phan Quang (contemporary photographer), Luu Thi Hoai Trang (performance art), Le Thanh Tung (visual mapping), Nguyen Duc Tu (video artist), and Truong Minh Quy (filmmaker).

Asian art centers that are sending their artists to Vietnam to join  the project are New Zero Space (Myanmar), Art Conversation Chiengmai (Thailand), Koganecho Bazaar, 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Japan), Post-Museum (Singapore), and Lost Generation (Malaysia).

In HCMC, all the programs will take place at Ca phe thu Bay, Chaosdowntown, Artfolio, and Japanese Elites Club.

A launching event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Cultural Salon Saturday Café (Ca phe thu Bay) at 19B Pham Ngoc Thach Street, District 3, HCMC.
