According to the Department of Overseas Labour under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Japan accounted for the highest number of Vietnamese workers during the January-May phase with 28,500 people. It was followed by Taiwan with 26,200, South Korea with 1,210 and China with 729.
Vietnam sent over 60,000 people to work abroad in the first five months of this year
In May alone, around 9,700 Vietnamese workers went to work abroad, including 5,300 to Japan; 3,500 to Taiwan; 192 to Hungary, 185 to Singapore; 106 to South Korea and 89 to China.
South Korea has shortened visa administrative procedures for foreign workers in the shipbuilding sector to ease its workforce shortage. This has opened more opportunities for overseas workers, including Vietnamese.
This year, the country has a target to send 110,000 people abroad, with an increase in those going to Europe.
