This information was revealed by Colonel Pham Manh Thang, director of the Vietnam Department of PeacekeepingOperations (VDPO) under the Ministry of National Defence, at a ceremony held at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to report the achievements that the department has recorded over the past decade.

At the event, Col. Thang affirmed that throughmissions and agencies, Vietnamese officers have excellently completed their assigned tasks, demonstrating their professionalism, high discipline, and efficiency.

He noted that all of them have been honoured with UN medals for their dedication to UN peacekeeping missions.

When participating in UN peacekeeping operations, the Vietnamese officers also took part in charitable activities to help local residents, including building schools and roads, teaching, drilling wells, and offering free medical checkups.

According to Col. Thang, participating in the UN peacekeeping missions is a tool for the department to gain more experience whilst promoting a positiveimage of Vietnamese soldiers to international friends. 

The position of Vietnam and the Vietnam People’s Army has also improved internationally, he concluded.
