The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) on October 12 convened a meeting in Hanoi at which they announced a series of actions to foster greater investment in climate resiliency and lower harmful emissions.

“We aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions 8%, even by 25% prior to 2030 if we can muster enough support from the international community, said Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha of the MNRE.
Ha announced the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) Vietnam report had been approved by the Prime Minister and sent to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The UNFCCC is a non-legally binding treaty that provides a framework for negotiating specific international treaties (called ‘protocols’) that may set binding limits on greenhouse gases and funding for countries such as Vietnam to stabilize greenhouse gases.
“Through implementing effective climate change response programs and with the UNFCCCs assistance, Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to coping with climate change,” Ha underscored.
Those in attendance at the meeting included representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
