The visit, beginning on September 3, is part of the cooperation agreement signed between the two agencies in 2010.

Vietnamese officials enquired about Singapore’s strategy to combat corruption, and the country’s experiences in investigating corruption cases and developing codes of conduct and professional ethics to prevent conflicts of interest in public sector jobs. They also learned about Singapore’s communication efforts to raise the public’s awareness of corruption.

Inspector General Tranh spoke highly of Singapore’s anti-corruption initiatives, regarding them as useful and practical experiences.

He said Vietnam is stepping up its efforts in the fight against corruption and would consider applying Singapore’s experience in the field.

On his part, CPIB Director Wong Hong Kuan said the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam was the first of its kind between CPIB and a foreign agency. He also appreciated the activities implemented as part of the framework of the MoU.

CPIB is an agency under Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office. A survey conducted in 2013 showed that 77 percent of the members of the public agreed that CPIB was effective in keeping corruption low in Singapore.
