In their second match of the tournament, Vietnam's national U19 football team thrashed Guam 4-1. In their opening tie of the competition, Vietnam had enjoyed a 3-0 win over Mongolia.
Following two consecutive wins, Vietnam’s U19 squad sit comfortable on six points.
Despite the strong start, Japan have also recorded a number of resounding wins. Indeed, the Japanese team thrashed Guam 10-0 before inflicting a 9-0 defeat over Mongolia.
With both the Japanese and Vietnamese team on the same number of points, Japan top Group J on goal difference.
Going into the tournament Vietnam’s U19s head coach Phillippe Troussier aimed for a place in the final round of the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship.
With regards to the rules of tournament, places in the final round will go to the 11 teams who finish first, whilst the five best second-placed teams will also go through.
In order to secure a place in the finals, the Vietnamese team will have to earn at least a point in their the upcoming match against Japan. VOV

Vietnam’s national under-19 football team are set to play local rivals Thailand in the opening match of the Bangkok Cup 2019, a regional under-19 football tournament, which is scheduled to take place from October 10-12.
