VietNamNet Bridge - General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation Tran Quoc Tuan was nominated to represent Southeast Asia at the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Standing Committee for the 2011-15 period on October 10.
Tuan, 39, was nominated to take over the post -- the highest-ever a Vietnamese official has ever held at the AFC -- during the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Congress held in Malaysia on October 9-10.
A nomination by a member association must be ratified by the AFC Executive Committee.
Tuan is now a member of the AFC Vision Asia Committee in charge of developing grassroots football. He is also a member of the AFF Council and the AFF Competition Committee.
Another Vietnamese official, Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation general secretary, Duong Vu Lam is the vice chairman of the AFF though his term is set to expire next year.
AFC is the governing body of Asian football and one of the six confederations making up FIFA.
AFC has 46 member associations divided into four zones, East, West, South and Center whereby Southeast Asia -- with Vietnam -- is in the last group.
