The team’s progress was evident in a 3-1 victory over Malaysia in the final round of qualifiers for the 2027 Asian Cup. Yet this may not represent the squad at its strongest, as Kim Sang Sik still has room to reinforce his options, particularly in attack.
One of the most anticipated returns in the upcoming training camp for the ASEAN Cup 2026 in July is Dinh Bac. The top scorer of the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup missed the recent match against Malaysia due to a two-match suspension imposed by the AFC.
However, his return comes at the right time. The young forward from CAHN (Hanoi Police FC) has shown strong determination and is eager to contribute, especially after regaining impressive form.
After a 500-day goal drought, Dinh Bac has scored consistently in his last three matches in the V-League 2025/26, netting four goals. This resurgence signals a return to confidence and sharpness following the U23 Asian Cup.
His revival is a significant boost for Kim Sang Sik. In 2026, Vietnam will participate in two regional tournaments simultaneously for the first time - the ASEAN Cup in July and the FIFA ASEAN Cup from September to October - both with the goal of securing the title.
With Dinh Bac back, Vietnam boast a powerful attacking unit. The duo of Xuan Son and Hoang Hen have already demonstrated strong chemistry and efficiency up front.
In addition, players such as Hoang Duc, Hai Long, Quang Hai, and Tuan Hai continue to assert their status among the region’s elite.
The challenge for Kim Sang Sik now lies in organizing his personnel and tactical system to fully maximize the quality at his disposal.
Hoang Hen is expected to secure a place on the right wing, while Xuan Son leads the line as a central striker. Dinh Bac could operate in a free role or serve as a strategic substitute.
Various attacking combinations will be carefully tested and evaluated by the Korean coach before being deployed in the upcoming tournaments.
