The incident occurred in the third set. Nguyen Thi Uyen suddenly fell to the court in visible pain. Medical staff immediately attended to the Vietnamese outside hitter before she was carried off on a stretcher for further treatment.

According to the latest information, Nguyen Thi Uyen was taken by the team’s medical staff to a hospital in Tianjin, China, for examination.

Hospital scans later showed that she had fortunately not suffered a torn ligament. She has since been taken back to the team to rest.

Depending on her recovery, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet will decide whether she can play in Vietnam’s match against Japan.

Nguyen Thi Uyen is one of four outside hitters in Vietnam’s squad for the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship, alongside Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Pham Quynh Huong and Bui Thi Anh Thao.

Vietnam will face Japan in their final group-stage match of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. on August 25.
