Vietnamese table tennis players’ three gold medals have secured them first place at the 5th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG5), which concluded on June 28.
Doan Ba Tuan Anh trounced Thai rival Max Poungri in five sets (3-2) on the final day of competition to win the team’s third gold. The previous two were won in the men’s team and men’s doubles events.
Tuan Anh said the Games offered local players a chance to show their talents and hone their skills.
Chief Vietnamese Table Tennis Coach Nguyen Minh Hien described the three gold medals as an outstanding achievement, noting commentators expected the team to bring home one gold at the very most.
The Vietnamese sports delegation finished ASG5 on top of the medal tally with 50 gold, 27 silver, and 20 bronze medals. They were followed by Thailand’s 20 gold, 26 silver, and 30 bronze medals.
An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Hanoi Athletics Palace on the evening of June 28.
