The 26th International Mathematics Competition, known as MIMC 2026, took place from July 22-27 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, bringing together students from 32 countries and territories.

Vietnam sent 24 students divided into six teams competing in the Key Stage II and Key Stage III categories. The students were selected and trained through two rounds of competition.

In the individual competition, Vietnamese students won four gold medals, seven silver medals, 10 bronze medals and two honorable mentions.

Three of the gold medals went to Key Stage II students: Du Hoang Minh, a sixth grader at Newton Grammar School; Nguyen Xuan Duc Minh, a fifth grader at Archimedes Academy Primary School; and Ta Minh Quang, a sixth grader at Ngoi Sao Hoang Mai Primary, Secondary and High School.

The remaining gold medal went to Truong Manh Quan, a seventh grader at Newton Grammar School, competing in the Key Stage III category.

In the group competition, two Vietnamese teams were crowned champions: Team 2A in Key Stage II and Team 3A in Key Stage III. Team 2B in Key Stage II finished as first runner-up.

In the team competition, the Vietnamese teams won three silver medals and two bronze medals.

MIMC 2026 featured two main competition formats, individual and team events, for primary and lower-secondary students. This year’s competition drew participants from 32 countries and territories.

In Vietnam, the IEG Foundation is authorized by the International Mathematics Competition Committee to select, train and coordinate the national teams participating in the international round.

During the competition, the Vietnamese delegation was welcomed and congratulated by Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vietnam’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mongolia, at the Vietnamese Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.
