The result, an unofficial ranking based on the number of medals, was released on May 20, with China first and Russia second.

Pham Duc Thang, from the High School for Gifted Students under the Ha Noi National University, won the gold medal.

Hoang Xuan Nhat, from the High School for Gifted Students under the HCM City National University, Nguyen Khanh, from the High School for Gifted Students under the Ha Noi National University, Trinh Huu Gia Phuc, from the Lam Son High School for Gifted Students in Thanh Hoa central province and Nguyen Minh Tung, from the High School for Gifted Students under the Ha Noi National University, won silver medals.

Nguyen Hoang Hai Minh, from the High School for Gifted Students under the Ha Noi National University and Duong Quoc Hung, from the Thang Long High School for Gifted Students in Lam Dong Central Highlands province, won bronze medals.

The Asia Informatics Olympiad 2018 was held online with 586 contestants from 31 countries and territories. A total of 87 contestants won medals.

Vietnam had 15 contestants and joined the Olympiad online at the Ha Noi National University on May 13.

In the Olympiad last year, Vietnam won five silver medals and one bronze medal, finishing seventh.
