Earlier, U19 Vietnam also missed out on a win in the last 20 seconds of their match against U21 Thailand. The 3-3 draw between U19 Vietnam and U21 Thailand ensured that U21 Vietnam would certainly enter the final before the match against the Japanese team.

U21 Vietnam created more scoring opportunities, but it was the Japanese team who scored the first goal in the 24th minute. However, the host country immediately equalised just a minute after, with a strike by midfielder Tran Ngoc Son. The first half ended with the scores level.

Minutes after the break, U21 Vietnam were awarded a penalty after the opposition defender handled the ball in the penalty area. Defender Le Van Son succeeded in scoring the penalty, giving Vietnam an advantage.

However, U21 Vietnam fell into difficulty when Ngoc Son was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. The score was maintained at 2-1 by the host until the 90th minute, but they lost out on victory when U21 Yokohama scored a last gasp equaliser in extra time. With a 2-2 draw, the teams will have to decide a winner in the final match of the International U21 Football Tournament that takes place on December 22.
