VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnamese government has adopted a number of practical solutions for dealing with illegal Vietnamese guest workers in the Republic of Korea.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is in Seoul for an official visit, was speaking at an August 27 reception given by Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.
He said the government has introduced policies, enhanced information dissemination, and decided to take punitive measures against law-breakers in an effort to prevent guest workers from terminating labour contracts and residing illegally in the RoK.
However, these measures prove inefficient without close coordination from relevant RoK agencies, Nhan stressed.
He proposed that both sides work closely together to resolve the matter and that the RoK consider resuming employment cooperation with Vietnam.
He also proposed the two countries speed up and early sign an agreement on legal aid in civil matters and trade to facilitate economic exchanges and cooperation.
Nhan confirmed that his visit will create an important prerequisite for new breakthroughs in education and sci-tech cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Yun said he was happy to receive Deputy PM Nhan in Seoul ahead of President Park Geun-hye’s upcoming visit to Vietnam scheduled for September 7-11.
He spoke highly the measures Vietnam has worked out to prevent Vietnamese guest workers from working and residing illegally in the RoK.
He expressed his belief that the RoK and Vietnam will increase comprehensive cooperation in education and sci-tech, especially between the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and its styled institute in Vietnam (V-KIST).
Nhan informed Yun of a pilot project to include the Korean language in the curriculum of Vietnamese schools alongside English, Chinese, French, Russian and German.
The same day, Nhan visited the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KIXIM) and the KIST and witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between three Vietnamese vocational schools and two RoK vocational schools.
