The agreement was signed by representatives of VTV, the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) and the BRG Group.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VTV General Director Tran Binh Minh, said: "When I talked to the Prime Minister about the construction of this TV tower, the Prime Minister said the TV tower must be the highest in the region. I asked him is it the highest in Southeast Asia or Asia? The Prime Minister said: ‘The highest in Asia’. I said the highest in Asia means the world's highest because the two tallest towers in the world are in Asia. The first is in Japan and the second in China."

The two highest TV towers in Asia today are the Sky - Tree in Tokyo, 634m, completed in 2012 and the Guangzhou TV tower with a height of 600m, completed in 2009.

Minh said the height of the Vietnam TV tower would be 636m.

"When working with a team of consultants, we agreed that the height of the tower will be 636 - a very nice figure," Minh added.

"We will build the tower but also create infrastructure for business and entertainment. We have dreamed of having a performing center where we can hold the biggest events, with about 8,000-10,000 seats," he said.

Minh confirmed: "Vietnam and the Government will leave the future generations a symbolic work: the Vietnam Television Tower.”
