VietNamNet Bridge – The qualifier round of the top football competition of Southeast Asia will be held in Vietnam and Singapore, according to the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF).

Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Pham Ngoc Vien on April 3 confirmed the information. "We have received notification of the AFF. Hosting the first round of the AFF Cup 2014 is not a surprise. We hosted the event in 2010. The AFF rotates the right to host the event so the opportunity is given to all nations. Laos, Cambodia and East Timor are ineligible to host it while Myanmar will host the SEA Games this year so Vietnam is given the right to host the qualifier round for a group," Vien said.

However, AFF has not finalized the schedule yet. Normally, the tournament is held at the end of the year, usually in November or December.

Vietnam will have a big advantage when playing at home. At recent AFF Cups, Vietnam’s achievement was pretty bad. In 2010, as the host country, Vietnam was eliminated in the semi-finals by Malaysia, which then crowned the championship.

In 2012, Vietnam said goodbye to AFF Cup in the first round. This is one of the most disappointed AFF Cup events of Vietnam when the team only won a draw against Myanmar.

Vietnam still has more than two years to prepare for the AFF Cup at home. Hopefully, with the lessons of the past, Vietnam will play well at the 2014 AFF Cup.
