Moving forward, the Vietnam national will play the first leg of the final at home turf at the My Dinh National Stadium on January 13, before playing the second leg away three days later.
Thailand’s Siam Sport online newspaper has dubbed the upcoming Vietnam-Thailand match a dream final.
Siam Sport recalled that Thailand’s rivalry with the Vietnamese national team started after losing to Vietnam in the final 14 years ago, with the Thai national team determined to defeat their regional rivals in this year’s tournament.
14 years ago Le Cong Vinh helped Vietnam to win the 2008 AFF Cup with a headed goal against Thailand in the dying moments of their second-leg match.
That was Vietnam’s first victory at the Southeast Asian tournament, with their second tournament win being repeated again in 2018.
