VietNamNet Bridge - The International Day of Happiness was organized by the United Nations for the first time on March 20, 2013. Responding to this meaningful program, Vietnam will have its first "Day of Happiness" on March 20, 2014, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s decision.

The program aims to raise awareness of the society about the position and role of the family, the laws and policies of the Party and the state on family-related issues, the rights and obligations of the family, the agencies related to the family, life skills, how to organize family life and building family relationships, gender equality in the family, prevention of domestic violence and increasing efficiency of family education.

The program will also honor the profound human values of the Vietnamese family; call for people to practice the civilized lifestyle, cultural family and inheriting good tradition of the Vietnamese family, raise awareness of the society about the role and position, the importance of family.

On June 11, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched two competitions: writing about happy families and compiling scripts on domestic violence prevention.

The competitions are part of activities to respond to the Year of Family of Vietnam 2013 and the International Day of Happiness 2004.
