The Vietnam General Assembly made the proposal to the IPU in August 2012 and the IPU Secretariat examined Vietnam’s capacity early this year.

The Secretariat highly valued Vietnam’s political commitment and its well-prepared tentative plan for the event.

Vietnam’s bid received strong support from all countries of ASEAN plus 3 (ASEAN+3) and the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) at the 128th session of the IPU General Assembly in Ecuador.

At its plenary session on March 27, the IPU General Assembly approved resolutions on international peace-security, trade and sustainable development, and human rights.

The Vietnamese delegation led by Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly attended the meeting from March 22-27.

During her stay, Ngan met with the President and held talks with the Vice Speaker of the parliament of Ecuador to strengthen the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and legislative bodies.
