VietNamNet Bridge – For the first time, the firework team of the central city of Da Nang will represent Vietnam at the Celebration of Light 2012 in Canada.



The city’s Vice chair Vo Duy Khuong said on February 16, that the city had received an invitation from the organizing board of the Celebration of Light 2012, and it would send a seven-member team to Canada.

The Celebration of Light in Canada is one of the most famous firework festivals in the world, which was held for the first time in 1990. The event draws around 1.4 million visitors annually.

This year, the festival will take place on the coast of Vancouver from July 28 to August 4. Vietnam will perform on July 28, followed by Brazil on August 1, and Italy on August 4.

Khuong said that the firework team of Da Nang is now preparing for the Da Nang International Firework Festival 2012, which is scheduled on April 29-30. After this event, the team will begin practicing for the festival in Canada.

According to the Da Nang People’s Committee, 24 companies have agreed to sponsor the Da Nang International Firework Festival 2012, with total funding of VND27.5 billion (nearly $1.4 million).

The organizing board will build two stands with 25,000 seats, including 16,000 seats with tickets from VND200,000-300,000/seat ($10-15).

The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has asked 500 local hotels to not increase fares by over 30 percent during the firework festival.

The department has also asked neighboring provinces of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam to join efforts to stabilize room fares at hotels in Lang Co and Hoi An during the festival.

Titled “The Color of Da Nang", the event will see the participation of 5 teams including David Whysall International Fireworks from Canada, Dragon Dancing Fireworks from China, Jacques Couturier Organization from France, Parente Fireworks from Italy and Da Nang Team from the host country, Vietnam.

First launched in 1990, the event is one of Vancouver's largest and most well known festivals. The multiple-day event has an estimated annual attendance of 1.4 million people.
