The Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015 was introduced to the public at a press conference in Bangkok, Thailand on July 7.
This year, Thailand was invited to participate in this event besides Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Matches will take place in all participating countries. The matches will be played between 1st November to 20th December 2015.
The semi-final match will be held in Hanoi on Dec 6. And the final match will be in Bangkok, Thailand on Dec 20.
The prize for the champion (first prize) is US$75,000. The second, third, fourth and fifth prizes are US$50,000, US$30,000, US$10,000 and US$5,000, respectively.
The best player will be given US$3,000.
In its first championship in 2014, the Toyota Mekong Club Championship attracted the top clubs from 4 nations – Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam – as they went head-to-head to claim the top prize.
The championship was hosted in Vietnam and drew in big crowds – a total of 33,000 people came to support their home teams over two match days.
Vietnam’s Becamex Binh Duong FC emerged champions in the 2014 Toyota Mekong Club Championship, with a final score of 4 - 1 against Myanmar’s Ayeyawady United FC.
The Toyota Mekong Club Championship is a football tournament among Mekong countries initiated by Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) in 2014 under the Toyota Mekong Football Project (MFP). The project is initiated by Toyota to show their support for the development of football in the Mekong countries.
