The Vietnam Exchange (VNX) has announced the timetable and key milestones for transferring listed stocks from the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) to the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) as part of a broader restructuring of the country’s stock market.

Under the plan, Dec. 23 will be the final trading day on HNX for all stocks currently listed there.

Stocks subject to the transfer will then be suspended from trading for two days, Dec. 24 and 25.

During that period, trading on HOSE and other markets operated by HNX will continue as normal in accordance with existing regulations.

The transferred stocks will begin their first trading session on HOSE on Dec. 28. Once the process is completed, all listed stocks in Vietnam will be concentrated on HOSE.

HNX currently has 299 listed stocks, with a combined market capitalization of more than VND460 trillion ($17.5 billion) as of the Sept. 30 trading session.

Notable companies currently listed on HNX include Sunshine Group (KSF), Thaiholdings (THD), National Citizen Bank (NVB), Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), Hanoi Beer Alcohol and Beverage Corporation (BHN), as well as MBS, SHS, PVS, PVI and HUT.

Following the transfer, the functions of the two exchanges will be more clearly delineated.

HOSE will focus on organizing trading in stocks, fund certificates and covered warrants, while HNX will concentrate on the bond, derivatives and Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM) segments.

HNX is also expected to develop a carbon credit market, establish a capital trading market for innovative startups and explore additional new financial products.

The transfer will also bring some changes to trading rules.

HOSE currently applies a daily price fluctuation limit of 7%, compared with 10% on HNX.

HOSE currently has 430 listed stocks with a combined market capitalization of more than VND8.5 quadrillion ($323 billion).

The consolidation of all listed stocks on HOSE is being carried out under the Ministry of Finance’s roadmap for restructuring Vietnam’s stock market.

VNX has urged listed companies, market members and investors to prepare proactively for the transfer.
