Vietnam to participate in Asian cycling event

Vietnam's cycling team will participate at the Asian Cycling Championship 2015 which kicks off today in Thailand.

The 14-strong team includes male veterans Le Van Duan, Trinh Duc Tam and Nguyen Thanh Tam, and female veterans Nguyen Thi That, Nguyen Thuy Dung and Phan Thi Lieu.

Among them, That won a silver medal at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea last year.

More than 400 racers from 41 different countries will compete from 10pm until midnight in the four-day event which will finish on Saturday.

This year's tournament will provide a chance for Viet Nam and other Southeast Asian nations to prepare for the in the 28th SEA Games in Singapore in June.

Viet Nam to train 11 athletes for Paralympics

The National Sports Administration will invest VND3.8 billion (US$180,000) to train 11 Vietnamese disabled athletes to help them earn cards for competing in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

At present, these athletes have achievements equivalent to Paralympic medallists in events, such as swimming, athletics and weightlifting.

Viet Nam's medal winning hopes are being pinned on Asian gold medallists Vo Thanh Tung and Nguyen Thanh Trung for swimming.

Unicorn-lion-dragon dance tournament starts

The National Unicorn-Lion-Dragon Dance Tournament began in Luu Huu Phuoc Park in the southern city of Can Tho on Sunday.

The event drew nearly 400 athletes from 26 teams across the country, competing in the men's and women's singles categories, as well as teams comprising both.

The three-day event, which attracted hundreds of viewers, will conclude today.

National U15 football qualifiers to kick off

Twenty-five teams would take part in qualifying rounds for the National U15 Football Tournament from March 21 to April 12, according to the Viet Nam Football Federation.

They will be divided into five groups, and the top seven teams will compete in the final round alongside the hosts.

The final round is scheduled to be held from May 21-30.
