Under Circular 74/2026 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam has introduced a revised list of undergraduate disciplines, outlining changes to how university majors are classified.
Many specialized disciplines will no longer retain separate names in the official classification system but will instead be incorporated into broader academic fields.

One notable change in the humanities concerns university programs focusing on the languages of Vietnam's ethnic minority communities.
Thai, Khmer, Hmong and Cham language majors will be grouped under a broader discipline called Languages of Vietnamese Ethnic Minorities.
In literature, Folklore will be incorporated into Vietnamese Literature, while Literary Theory and Comparative Literature will both be classified under Literature.
Several disciplines in the arts will undergo similar changes.
Piano and Jazz Music will be incorporated into Western Instrumental Performance, while Theatre Arts will be placed under Theatre Theory, History and Criticism.
Stage Screenwriting and Film and Television Screenwriting will be combined into a broader Screenwriting discipline.
In performing arts, majors covering traditional musical theatre acting and drama, film and television acting will be consolidated under Acting.
In the natural sciences, several specialized disciplines previously classified according to their specific areas of study will be incorporated into broader academic categories.
Within biology, Zoology, Entomology, Hydrobiology, Botany, Plant Physiology and Experimental Biology will all be grouped under the broader discipline of Biology.
