This meteor shower will be at the average level. The best time to watch the Eat Aquarids is from 3:00 to 4:00 am on May 6, said Dang Vu Tuan Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Club of Astronomy. Son noted that observers should choose good places with broad visions.
Nguyen Duc Phuong, a member of the Vietnam Association of Astronomy and Space, advised observes to not use telescopes or binoculars to observe the Eat Aquarids, just their eyes since the speed of each meteor shower could reach 30km per second if seen through telescopes or binoculars.
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories.
Most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand, so almost all of them disintegrate and never hit the earth's surface. Intense or unusual meteor showers are known as meteor outbursts and meteor storms, which may produce greater than 1,000 meteors an hour.
The Eta Aquariids got their name because their radiant appears to lie in the constellation Aquarius, near one of the constellation's brightest stars, Eta Aquarii.
