On November 28, the Department of Sports and Physical Training officially announced the Vietnamese sports delegation participating in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33). The delegation includes a total of 1,165 members - ranging from leaders, staff, coaches, and athletes to doctors and logistics teams.

Out of the total, 952 members will have their expenses covered by the department, including airfare, accommodation, daily allowances, and communication costs. The remaining 213 members will be sponsored by local authorities or private funding sources.

The delegation will be led by Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, with three deputy leaders: Hoang Quoc Vinh, Le Thanh Ha, and Nguyen Ngoc Long. The team also includes 21 delegation officials.

As of now, only four teams - men’s and women’s football and men’s and women’s futsal - have yet to finalize their rosters. The Vietnamese U22 men’s and national women’s football teams are expected to have 31 members each (including 23 players), while the two futsal squads will each comprise 20 members.

As in previous SEA Games editions, the athletics team will have the largest number of athletes, with 66 members. Athletics at this year's Games will feature 47 medal events, and the Vietnamese team aims to win 12–14 golds, particularly in middle- and long-distance races, relays, and long jump.

SEA Games 33 will feature 50 official sports with 574 events, awarding a total of 569 sets of medals. Additionally, three showcase sports - disc throwing, tug of war, and aerial sports - will be demonstrated. The Vietnamese delegation will compete in 47 sports, aiming to bring home more than 80 gold medals.

Originally scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, the Games have been partially relocated due to historic flooding in Songkhla. All events originally planned for that area will now be moved to Bangkok.

The Vietnamese delegation’s send-off ceremony took place on the afternoon of November 28 in Hanoi.
