The trip will mark Anutin Charnvirakul's first visit to Vietnam as prime minister. It comes just one week after Party General Secretary and State President To Lam's highly successful visit to Thailand and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1976-2026).

Earlier in May, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met his Thai counterpart in Cebu, the Philippines, on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit.

Vietnam and Thailand are among each other's most important partners in the region. The two countries share many similarities and possess strong potential to become major global manufacturing hubs.

Both sides are working toward increasing bilateral trade from the current $22 billion to $25 billion in a balanced and sustainable manner, while accelerating licensing procedures and expanding market access for several promising agricultural products.

The ASEAN Future Forum, themed “Building a shared future of peace, prosperity and people-centered development,” will take place in Hanoi on June 9-10.

The forum will feature a wide range of activities, including plenary sessions on resilience, conflict prevention, artificial intelligence (AI), energy security and development models. It will also host dialogues among Southeast Asian political parties, a conference of ASEAN city leaders, a Mekong sub-region roundtable, a Southeast Asian youth roundtable and discussions on AI governance.

To date, organizers have recorded registrations from more than 600 participants, including senior leaders from Vietnam and ASEAN member states, representatives of international organizations, research institutes, businesses and academic institutions.
