The figure was released by Google Vietnam on Aug. 28 in its latest report on Gemini usage trends across Southeast Asia. According to the company, Vietnamese users currently lead the region both in the adoption of AI for learning and in the use of their native language.

In addition to submitting 89% of all prompts directly in Vietnamese, users in the country make greater use of translation and localization features than those in any other market in the region.

Alongside the report, Google highlighted 50 real-world applications of artificial intelligence in Vietnam to mark the country’s National Day on Sept. 2. The examples show how AI is gradually moving beyond the research environment and into practical applications in governance, operations and society.

In the technology sector, for instance, a 13-year-old student at OplaCRM independently developed a multi-agent AI system for businesses using Google Gemini Enterprise. Meanwhile, social enterprise Reaching Out Teahouse in Hoi An is using AI to support communication for hearing-impaired artisans and has reduced its marketing costs by 80%.

“Vietnam’s impressive technological momentum is being driven by the aspirations and creativity of its own people as the country enters what it calls a new ‘era of national rise,’” said Marc Woo, Managing Director of Google Vietnam. The 50 real-world stories demonstrate that when technology helps unlock each individual’s strengths, society as a whole can grow stronger, he added.

According to Google, the company’s digital skills programs in Vietnam have reached more than 100,000 people. Beneficiaries include more than 30,000 public-sector officials, 32,000 school and university students, and 8,000 small and medium-sized enterprises through the Gemini Academy program launched earlier this year.

Google is also seeking 1,000 Google Student Ambassadors from universities and colleges to help promote responsible AI skills in education.

Vietnam’s National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence through 2030, with a vision to 2045, approved by the Prime Minister on Aug. 28, sets out goals to develop high-quality AI human resources, AI talent and an elite AI workforce; provide AI training, retraining and upskilling for workers; and make AI skills widely accessible across society.

The strategy also calls for a strong shift from teaching individual technology skills toward developing the ability to create AI-powered products, services and practical value, while attracting and making effective use of leading AI experts, including Vietnamese professionals overseas and foreign specialists.

One of the strategy’s nine pillars focuses on developing high-quality AI talent and making AI skills accessible throughout society, ensuring the workforce has the capacity to research, develop, deploy and use artificial intelligence.
