On the morning of February 2, a representative from the Department confirmed that recent viral posts suggesting such a proposal are entirely untrue.

“Certain social media accounts have been spreading information claiming that the Department of Traffic Police is proposing a 5 million VND fine for anyone filming officers on duty without prior consent,” the representative said.
“These rumors are absolutely false. No such proposal has been made by the Department,” the representative emphasized.
The spokesperson also pointed out that the misinformation is being accompanied by images generated using AI tools, further misleading the public.
The Department warned that individuals or organizations involved in spreading or disseminating false information online will be held accountable under Vietnamese law.
“Spreading fabricated news not only causes confusion among the public but also affects the credibility of law enforcement agencies,” the statement noted.
This incident follows a series of recent false claims on social media related to traffic regulations. The Department has also had to deny rumors about an alleged steep increase in penalties for blood alcohol content violations starting in 2026, labeling those reports equally baseless.
The public is urged to verify information through official sources and refrain from sharing unverified or manipulated content.
