A flawless title run

Rarely in history has a final match unfolded without anxiety for Vietnamese fans, replaced instead by a single certainty: how the team coached by Cristiano Roland would defeat Malaysia to claim the title.

That confidence was not only rooted in the earlier 4-0 victory over Malaysia in the group stage, but also in Vietnam U17’s impressive journey leading up to and throughout the tournament.

An unbeaten streak of 15 matches, with 55 goals scored and just five conceded, reflects a team that is both consistent and complete under the Brazilian coach.

The 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the final, securing a fourth Southeast Asian U17 title and extending the unbeaten run to 16 matches, was the culmination of a sustained journey rather than a single moment. The numbers speak for themselves, affirming the absolute value of this championship.

A bigger dream begins

The regional title is a milestone, but for this generation under coach Roland, it feels more like the starting point of a journey toward the continental stage.

In 2025, the team exited the Asian finals at the group stage despite holding Japan, Australia and the UAE to draws - a campaign filled with promise yet ending in disappointment. In 2026, however, the story could be very different.

Beyond their current form, Vietnam U17 possess a level of technical foundation rarely seen in a youth squad. They play with composure, know how to impose their style, and show efficiency in both attack and defense.

Under Roland’s guidance, the young players have matured significantly in tactical awareness. They no longer step onto the pitch merely to learn, but with the mindset of contenders.

Football always needs momentum, and this championship provides the perfect launchpad. A new cycle of success appears to be unfolding. Based on what they have shown, fans have every reason to believe that, following the achievements of the U23 generation, a new and perhaps even more glorious chapter - one bearing the name of the World Cup - awaits Vietnam U17 in Qatar this coming May.
