The Vietnamese national football team climbed one notch to 94th position in the latest FIFA rankings, representing their highest position since 2021.
The latest increase can be attributed to poor performances of higher-ranking teams such as Armenia in matches played in October. The European team got 22 points deducted following their poor showing in October series.
With these results, the Vietnamese team continued to top the rankings in Southeast Asia, leaving behind Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia in their second, third and fourth places.
Elsewhere in Asia, Vietnam finished 15th overall, according to the latest FIFA rankings.
Vietnam recently completed their friendly games during the FIFA Days series. They outplayed Hong Kong (China), Syria and Palestine, but conceded defeat to China, Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.
According to the fixture schedule moving forward, the Vietnamese team led by coach Philippe Troussier will take part in the second qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup in November. They will face off against the Philippines on November 16, Iraq on November 21, and Indonesia on March 21, 2024.
