National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung held talks with Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay Anibal Pereyra in Hanoi on January 19, during which a cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies was inked.

The January 18-22 visit by the Uruguayan delegation will open up multi-faceted cooperation prospects between the two countries and promote the bilateral relations, the NA leader said.

He thanked Uruguay for its valuable assistance to Vietnam’s national protection, construction and development, and congratulated the Latin American country on its socio-economic achievements.

Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung suggested the two sides actively coordinate to effectively implement the signed cooperation agreements, increase all-level delegation exchanges, and support each other at regional and international forums, especially the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

He invited leaders of the Uruguayan Chambers of Senators and Representatives to attend the 132nd IPU General Assembly to be held in Vietnam in March.

The Uruguayan Speaker said his country considers Asia and Vietnam as strategic partners in its integration and development.

He vowed to support Vietnam wherever possible and tighten the sound relationship between the two countries and the two parliaments in particular.
