As a neighboring country and fellow ASEAN member, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise maximum restraint, avoid the use of force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, and continue dialogue to resolve disputes peacefully and satisfactorily.

Such actions must be based on the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

They should also reflect the spirit of ASEAN solidarity and friendship, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

The spokesperson affirmed: “Vietnam will continue to contribute positively to promoting dialogue and the implementation of the ceasefire between the two nations, aiming to restore peace and cooperation along the border in the ASEAN spirit of friendship and solidarity, for the long-term benefit of both sides and the region.”

During a meeting earlier today with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated that Vietnam is closely following developments and remains committed to supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

He urged both Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, respect each other’s legitimate interests, and comply with peace agreements.

Vietnam consistently upholds the importance of resolving all disputes through peaceful means.

Lasting stability, the Prime Minister said, is the best solution for both countries  -  and for ASEAN’s unity, as well as for preserving a peaceful, stable, and cooperative regional environment.

Over the weekend, multiple armed skirmishes broke out along the Cambodia–Thailand border, prompting the Thai military to deploy F-16 fighter jets.

In response to the deteriorating situation, both governments launched large-scale evacuation operations and closed hundreds of schools in high-risk areas.

Earlier, in July, a border clash between the two nations resulted in numerous casualties.

On October 26, Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
