Vietnam wishes to bolster ties with Bulgaria in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economics, and education, and continue bilateral coordination at multilateral forums and international organisations, stated Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
At his reception for Bulgarian Vice President Margarita Popova in Hanoi on November 27, the PM affirmed that her visit will be an important contribution to the two countries’ time-honoured friendship and fine cooperation.
He spoke highly of the outcomes of the talks between the guest and Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, suggesting both sides collaborate closely to effectively implement cooperative contents agreed by their senior leaders in order to lift the bilateral relations to a new height.
Vice President Margarita Popova, in turn, affirmed Bulgaria’s hope to further intensify partnership with Vietnam.
She stressed the need to help young generations understand more about the Bulgaria-Vietnam relationship.
The Vice President declared her country’s strong support for Vietnam at multi-lateral forums and international organisations and for stronger ties with the European Union, especially when Bulgaria assumes the rotation Chair of the EU in 2016-2017.
On this occasion, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Vietnam presented Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung with the Honorary Doctorate Degree of the national university of Bulgaria.
Bulgarian VP praises Vietnamese progress
Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan held talks with her Bulgarian counterpart Margarita Popova in Ha Noi yesterday.
The Vice President hailed the Bulgarian leader's official visit as significant to promote the traditional amity and multifaceted co-operation between the two countries.
The State leader reiterated that Viet Nam treasured its ties with Bulgaria as part of its foreign policy of independence, diversification and multilateralisation, and proactive international integration.
She added Bulgaria's impressive socio-economic achievements and increasing integration into the European Union institutions along with Viet Nam's dynamic economic growth and activeness in the regional and global arenas were prerequisites for them to enhance result-oriented partnerships in various fields, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
Vice President Doan also thanked Bulgarian leaders and all-level authorities for creating favourable conditions for the overseas Vietnamese community.
For her part, Margarita Popova spoke highly of Viet Nam's doi moi (renewal) achievements and voiced the belief that the Southeast Asian nation would continue to be a crucial factor for regional peace and stability and secure a worthy position in the world.
She noted that her country wanted to elevate its time-honoured friendship and multifaceted co-operation with Viet Nam to a new level.
Bulgaria supported the settlement of all disputes among countries by peaceful measures on the basis of international law, the Vice President stressed.
The two sides took the occasion to inform each other about their respective nations' situation, exchanged views on matters of shared concern and agreed on the direction and concrete measures to bolster bilateral relations in economics-trade, education-training, culture-tourism, and security-defence.
They were also pleased with the countries' close and effective coordination at international forums and agreed to strengthen cooperation in this regard.
They concurred in promoting the effective implementation of the economic co-operation model approved by the countries' leaders in 2013 with the aim to lift bilateral ties to a strategic partnership in the near future.
At a joint press conference following the talks, Vice President Doan said both sides agreed on the need to set up a joint working group within the framework of the inter-governmental committee on economic, trade, scientific and technical co-operation so as to increase bilateral trade and improve the effectiveness of investment co-operation.
Meanwhile, Margarita Popova said Bulgaria and Viet Nam boasted much potential for collaboration in all realms, especially justice, adding that she hoped they would further student exchanges and joint activities between their nursery schools.
Traditional friendship
On the same day, Chairman of Viet Nam's National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung held a reception for the Bulgarian Vice President in Ha Noi.
The Chairman said the Vice President's visit would have a significant influence on the Viet Nam-Bulgaria traditional friendship and co-operation as the two countries celebrated the 65th anniversary of bilateral relations.
Hung said Viet Nam was thankful for the support of the people and Bulgarian government during Viet Nam's struggle for independence, as well as its national building and modernisation efforts.
The Vice President expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Viet Nam for its socio-economic development. She said Bulgaria always valued the Viet Nam-Bulgaria relationship.
The two leaders agreed that bilateral exchanges between the two countries should be increased, along with economic co-operation.

NA Chairman welcomes new Lao ambassador
Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung gave a warm welcome to the recently appointed Lao ambassador to Viet Nam Thongsavanh Phomvihane yesterday in Ha Noi.
Congratulating him on his new post, the NA Chairman expressed his hope that the ambassador would strive to contribute to the traditional friendship and co-operation between the peoples and governments of Viet Nam and Lao.
He praised Laos's accomplishment in its national building efforts and reaffirmed that bilateral relations between the two countries remained a key priority for Viet Nam.
