The weather forecast for Christmas and New Year 2025 indicates cold nights and mornings with mild sunshine during the day in the North, while the Central, Central Highlands, and Southeastern regions may experience heavy rain.
On the afternoon of December 22, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting updated the latest weather developments for Christmas and New Year 2025 across the country.
From December 24–25, the northern provinces will have cloudy nights, light fog and mist in the early morning, and mild sunshine during the day.
During this time, night and morning temperatures in the northern midland and mountainous areas will range from 10–13°C, and 14–16°C in the Red River Delta. Daytime temperatures will be between 20–23°C. Starting the night of December 25, scattered rain and drizzle are expected.
In the North, Christmas Eve may see temperatures drop as low as 10°C.
Notably, during this same period, the Central and South-Central regions, as well as the Central Highlands, may experience moderate to heavy rain, while the Southeastern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the eastern provinces.
In Hanoi, December 24–25 will remain cloudy with no rain. The afternoons will see mild sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 14–21°C on December 24 and slightly higher, 15–22°C, on December 25.
For New Year 2025, the North and North-Central regions will have cloudy nights and mornings with light fog and mist. By midday, the skies will clear for mild sunshine. Night and morning temperatures will range from 11–14°C in the northern midland and mountainous areas and 14–17°C in the plains and North-Central regions. Daytime temperatures will be between 20–23°C.
At the beginning of January 2025, the Central region will experience scattered showers, mainly at night and in the early morning. The South-Central region, Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam will have little rain and sunny days.
Heavy rain in the Central Region during Christmas
Providing a more detailed forecast for heavy rain in the Central region, meteorological authorities stated that as of December 22, the Central and South-Central regions are experiencing scattered showers and localized thunderstorms.
From the night of December 23 to December 24, areas from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa will see moderate to heavy rain, with some locations experiencing very heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 30–80mm, with localized areas exceeding 200mm.
By early morning and throughout December 24, this rain will extend to the eastern Central Highlands, with rainfall ranging from 15–40mm, and localized areas exceeding 70mm.
On the night of December 24 and throughout December 25, the Central and South-Central regions, as well as the eastern Central Highlands, will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing rainfall of 50–100mm and localized totals exceeding 200mm. For the eastern Central Highlands, rainfall will range from 30–60mm, with some areas exceeding 120mm. Starting December 26, heavy rain is expected to subside.
Thunderstorms may be accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
In the Central region:
On December 24: Northern areas will have temperatures of 15–21°C, while southern areas will range from 19–27°C. Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan will see temperatures of 24–28°C.
On December 25: Northern areas will see 16–22°C, while southern areas will range from 20–28°C, with some locations exceeding 28°C.
In Southern Vietnam: On December 24, temperatures will range from 20–28°C, increasing slightly by 1°C on December 25.
In the Central Highlands, temperatures will range from 18–27°C.
