Building momentum ahead of a diplomatic milestone
This marks Prime Minister Hun Manet’s second visit to Vietnam since the formation of Cambodia’s seventh-term government in August 2023.
The visit takes place as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, a milestone of particular significance in the history of Vietnam-Cambodia ties.
Officials from both sides view the visit as an opportunity to further strengthen political trust and create new momentum for deeper, more substantive and effective cooperation across all sectors.
Despite historical challenges, relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have been built upon a foundation of friendship, solidarity, mutual support and shared strategic interests, becoming a valuable asset for both nations.
To further consolidate bilateral relations, the two countries are actively implementing strategic orientations agreed upon by senior leaders of both parties and states. They continue to coordinate closely within multilateral frameworks, particularly ASEAN and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.
Trade, investment and tourism remain bright spots
Economic cooperation continues to be one of the strongest pillars of bilateral relations.
Two-way trade reached USD 11.33 billion in 2025, an increase of more than 11.7 percent compared with 2024. During the first four months of 2026, bilateral trade approached USD 5 billion, up 9.6 percent year-on-year.
Vietnam is currently Cambodia’s third-largest trading partner globally and its largest trading partner within ASEAN.
Both countries are working toward the goal of raising bilateral trade turnover to USD 20 billion in the near future.
Tourism exchanges have also recorded impressive growth. In 2025, Vietnam accounted for 1.22 million visitor arrivals to Cambodia, the highest among all source markets. Meanwhile, Vietnam welcomed nearly 700,000 Cambodian visitors.
Cooperation in education and training, transportation, culture, healthcare and telecommunications has also continued to expand. Exchanges among social organizations and people-to-people groups remain active and increasingly diverse.
Vietnam and Cambodia have also maintained close coordination at international, regional and sub-regional forums, particularly within the United Nations, ASEAN, ASEAN-led mechanisms and Mekong cooperation frameworks, helping enhance the standing and influence of both countries on the regional and global stage.
