More than 9 million foreign tourists have come to Vietnam so far this year—a 25.4% year-on-year increase exceeding the target of 8.5 million for 2016, the General Statistics Office has announced.


Meanwhile, the total number of domestic tourists was 57.7 million in the January-November period.

In November alone, more than 926,000 foreign travellers visited Vietnam—an increase of 14.0% over the previous month and 24.9% over the same period of last year. Of these, nearly 770,000, or 82.9%, of them arrived in Vietnam by air while 141,578 others arrived by road and 16,843 were cruise passengers.

An upturn has emerged in almost major markets, with the highest rise in tourism from Hong Kong at 72.9%, followed by China (53.9%), the Republic Of Korea (39.2%), New Zealand (35.4%), Russia (29.1%) and Thailand (29.0%).

The total revenue of the tourism sector was over VND 368,600 trillion (US$16.19 billion), up 18.6% year on year.
