Nguyen Ngoc Khanh Linh won the silver, while the bronze medalists were Truong Quoc Cuong, Dinh Nhat Minh, Pham Ngoc Huyen and Lam Huu Hao. They are all sixth grade students of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School for Gifted Students in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is the third year that Vietnam has entered the final of the World Mathematical Olympiad to compete with students from nine countries – the US, Canada, the UK, China, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Mexico.
The Vietnamese team comprised of 12 sixth graders from Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School for Gifted Students, with carefully preparations.
This year, the World Mathematical Olympiad’s tests focused on exploring creativity, teamwork, logical capacity and skills to deal with problems.
To prepare for the contest, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training worked with EMG Education Company – the official representative agency of the World Mathematical Olympiad Association in Vietnam – to train the students.
The annual World Mathematical Olympiad is an international contest for students aging from 8-13, drawing thousands of contestants from various countries.-VNA
