Vietnam’s team have won 9 medals, including one gold and six silvers, during the first 7 competition days at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Peru, which will end on April 12.

Khomg My Phuong, the only girl in the team, won the gold medal in the girls’ 44-kilogramme snatch category when she delivered her best lift of 70 kilograms, 3 kilograms above second-place Gao Yimei of China.

Phuong brought home two other silvers after finishing second in the clean and jerk category with a lift of 146 kilograms and a total lift of 216 kilograms.

Favourite Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan failed to land any gold medals after finishing second in all three categories in the boys’ 56-kilogramme event.

Two remaining members of the team, Le Nguyen Quoc Bao and Le Quang Vinh, claimed another silver and two bronze medals.

Vietnam young tennis talent eyes golds at Asian competition

Vietnam's No 1 tennis player Ly Hoang Nam is to play in the Asian Closed Junior Championships 2015 tennis tournament in India, which will kick off on April 13.

Nam, who is world junior No 31, has set a target of winning both the men's singles and doubles titles at the Grade B1 event. He is the No 1 seed in both categories.

The five-day tournament has lured the continent’s leading competitors, and offers big bonuses of 180 points for the individual winners and 120 for the winning pairs.
