Vietnamese students secured five medals, including two golds, one silver and two bonzes, at the 43rd International Physics Olympiad held in Estonia from July 13-25.

The gold medalists were Ngo Phi Long, an 11th-grader at the Son La Gifted High School in the northern mountainous province of Son La, and Dinh Ngoc Hai, a 12th-grader at Bien Hoa Gifted High School in the northern province of Ha Nam.

Le Huy Quang from the Lam Son Gifted High School in the northern province of Thanh Hoa bagged the silver medal, while Dinh Viet Thang and Bui Xuan Hien from Le Hong Phong Gifted High School in the northern province of Nam Dinh earned the two bronzes.

This was the best result recorded by Vietnamese students at the International Physics Olympiad since 2009.

The 2012 competition was attended by nearly 300 competitors from 88 countries and territories. The five Vietnamese participants were selected from the team that won eight medals (one gold, five silvers, and two bronzes) at the 13th Asian Physics Olympiad hosted by India last May.
