VietNamNet Bridge – Nguyen Thi Phuong and Quach Nguyen Thi Lan won two gold medals for Vietnam at the Malaysian Open Athletics Tournament, which closed in Kuala Lumpur on October 20.

Vietnam sent only three athletes to Malaysia this time, including Quach Thi Lan, Quach Cong Lich and Nguyen Thi Phuong.

All of them won medals, including two gold medals of Nguyen Thi Phuong in the women’s 1,500 m running (4 minutes 37.11 seconds) and the women’s 3,000 m hurdle (11 minutes 12 seconds).

Quach Thi Lan also won a gold medal in the women’s 400 meters fence (57.74 seconds) and a silver medal for the women’s 400 meter running (53.84 seconds). Lan’s record for the women’s 400 m running is much better than the 26th SEA Games silver medal (58.97 seconds) and only 33 percent of a second less than the 26th SEA Games gold medal of Noraseela Khalid.

Lan’s elder brother – Quach Cong Lich – also won a silver medal in the men’s 400 m running, with 47.80 seconds. This parameter is also higher than the bronze medal of 26th SEA Games of Leuwol (Indonesia) for 17 percent of a second.

The Malaysia Open Athletics Tournament 2013 attracted 214 athletes from Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Kuwait, UAE, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
