Vietnam’s women’s national team suffered a 0-1 defeat to Chinese Taipei in their second Group C match at the Women’s Asian Cup 2026 finals. The only goal came in the 25th minute when Su Yu Hsuan headed home from close range after her teammate’s shot struck the crossbar.

After conceding, coach Mai Duc Chung’s players pushed forward in search of an equalizer. In the second half, Vietnam controlled the game and created several dangerous chances. However, attempts from Van Su, Bich Thuy and Hai Linh were not sharp enough to beat goalkeeper Wang Yu-tin.

Despite the defeat to Chinese Taipei, Vietnam’s chances of reaching the World Cup remain open.

Although Vietnam played with determination and applied strong pressure in the second half, they were unable to score. The narrow loss temporarily pushed the team down to third place in Group C, making the race for qualification unpredictable ahead of the final round.

Uzbekistan’s 4-0 victory over Bangladesh at the Women’s Asian Cup 2026 has further tightened the battle for quarter-final spots for Vietnam. With that result, Uzbekistan now have three points and a goal difference of -2, while also scoring more goals than the Philippines to gain an advantage among the third-placed teams.

This situation forces Vietnam to secure a favorable result in the final match against Japan. Coach Mai Duc Chung’s side need at least a draw to guarantee progression. If they lose, there is still a chance to advance, but the defeat must be by a narrow margin and they will have to rely on favorable outcomes from other matches.
