VietNamNet Bridge – The annual U.S.-based MTV Video Music Awards 2013 (MTV VMA 2013) has announced that 23-year-old Vietnamese-American Khoa Phan will design eight clips for this year’s VMA nominations on Instagram and Vine social networks for the first time.

MTV VMA will have the participation of Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West and Katy Perry for live performances on stage in Brooklyn, New York. The live broadcasting program will be aired on MTV Vietnam at 12 a.m. on Monday, August 26.

Phan’s stop-motion style clips for Best Male Video, Best Female Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Pop Video, Best Collaboration, Artist to Watch, and Best Song with a Social Message have been posted on social some networks like Instagram and Twitter’s Vine.                         

Khoa, who lives in San Diego, has been followed by 33,882 people on Instagram and over 54,700 people for his Vine, a seven-second clip on cell phones. Khoa, who is not a professional designer, uses his creativity with colored paper and Vine’s clip making application for cell phones to create over 100 unique stop-motion clips.

His first Vine, “Hope your day is bubbly” in January was chosen as Editor’s Picks and so far has received 41,000 likes on Vine.

He has cooperated with CNN, Snapple, Peanuts Worldwide LLC, Chevrolet, and Samsung.

Previously, MTV cooperated with Phan in some small projects. The latest cooperation between MTV VMA and Khoa on social networks helped attracted 250,000 likes on Instagram, 16 million views on Twitter, another eight millions views on Facebook and one million on Tumblr.

MTV VMA is an award presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in the music video medium. The annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony which was first held in 1984 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall has been called the Oscars for youth. Other VMAs have been held in Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas.
