Since late 2010, Mr. Hoang Kieu’s presence in Tien Giang has gradually reduced. His tens of projects in the province have been idle or run in moderation. Recently, he suddenly sold all of his stakes in Tigi Tour, officially withdrawing from Tien Giang.
Thoi Son islet celebrates the Miss World pageant!
In early 2009, Tien Giang people got a stir with the news that Hoang Kieu stated to bring the "Miss World 2010" pageant to Tien Giang province, namely the island of Thoi Son (amid the Tien River, My Tho city), not in Nha Trang.
The reason given was that the facilities for the contest in Nha Trang had to be rent at great cost, while Tigi Tour had the Thoi Son islet. This place could be exploited to serve the contest, benefit Tigi Tour and contribute to the development of Tien Giang tourism. Then people came to know that all the shares of Tigi Tour were purchased by Hoang Kieu and his family.
Soon after, Mr. Hoang Kieu hung banners in English "Welcome Miss World 2010" on Thoi Son Islet, along with the purchase of land at high prices and building works for the contest. However, he forgot that the transfer of the Miss World pageant from Nha Trang to Tien Giang was not permitted by the Government and Thoi Son Islet could not meet the conditions necessary for such a beauty contest.
Then the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent a dispatch to Tien Giang authorities to confirm that the Miss World 2010 pageant would be still held in Nha Trang, not Tien Giang as suggested by the Tien Giang government and Mr. Hoang Kieu.
By this time people knew that the authorities of Tien Giang did not license many construction works to serve the Miss World pageant on Thoi Son Islet.
The local authorities had to fine Mr. Hoang Kieu VND35 million for illegal building. After that, Hoang Kieu suspended the construction of most of the works on Thoi Son Islet and shut down many tourism and service establishments in Tien Giang, making a significant impact on tourism activities in the province.
The province has repeatedly requested Mr. Hoang Kieu to put tourism projects into operation, otherwise they would conduct land acquisition.
Where does Mr. Hoang Kieu go?
Over the past 2 years Kieu has hardly appeared in Tien Giang. His Tigi Tour has operated very moderately and it has been run by his family members. By this time, the insiders realized that Hoang Kieu acquired Tigi Tour and invested in Thoi Son Islet not to develop Tien Giang tourism as he originally promised. The real reason is to serve the "Miss World" pagent that he has been attached for a long time. When his plant failed, it is evident that he would leave.
Finally, Hoang Kieu transferred of all his shares in Tigi Tour to Mrs. Hoang Thi Hoai Linh. The new investor submitted to the Tien Giang authorities her plan to consolidate Tigi Tour and continue to implement tourism projects of Mr. Hoang Kieu. What lessons have Tien Giang authorities learned from the investment of Hoang Kieu?
