Lê finished in two hours and 40.55 minutes to take the win ahead of his countryman Lê Văn Tuấn, who came in second in 2hr 42min 36sec, and Japanese runner Hide Yuki Mamiya, who came in third with a time of 2hr 43min 19sec.

Meanwhile, Japanese marathoners dominated the women’s 42km race with Zhou finishing first in 2hr 57min 57sec and Yuki Mizuseda completing the race in 3hr 07min 21sec. Chiaki Yoshida came third in 3hr 19min 28sec. 

In the men’s half marathon (21km), Japanese runner Takumi Hasebe finished in one hour and 11.24 minutes to take first, 3.5 minutes faster than Swiss runner Fabian Downs who finished second with a time of 1hr 14.19min, and Hikaru Urano of Japan who ranked third with a time of 1hr 14min 52sec.

On the women's side, Vietnamese runner Nguyễn Thị Hương finished in 1hr 29.49min to take the top spot on a cool day ahead of Yuko Tanimura of Japan in second and Heidi Makinen of Finland in third.

Malaysia’s Wai Ching Soh won the men’s 10km, while Vietnamese-American runner Phi Luong Hong took the win in the women’s race.The two best-placed Vietnamese runners – Tân Hi Lê and Nguyễn Thị Dương – will get free entries for the Shonam International Marathon in Japan this December.

The event’s organisers also raised VNĐ200 million (US$8,700) from donors during the race in support of orphans, victims of Agent Orange, disabled people, the Village of Hope and the poor people of Đà Nẵng.

This year's race had a record number of participants with more than 9,000 athletes including 2,400 foreigners from 67 countries and territories competing in the 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km fun run. — VNS
