Vietnamese archers fail in qualifying round of world archery event

Two Vietnamese archers failed to pass yesterday's qualifying round in the women's individual recurve event at the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark yesterday, July 27.

Dao Thi Loc and Le Thi Thu Hien earned 619 and 651 points respectively, ousting them from the event and chances to play for medals in the category at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

Viet Nam sent five athletes to the event, organised by the World Archery Federation, where the Vietnamese team will play to secure Olympic tickets.

The top three qualifiers in the event where Lin Shih-Chia of Chinese Taipei with 667 points, and Ki Bo Bae and Kang Chae Young of South Korea both with 665 points.

Vietnamese athletes are left to compete in the men's individual compound and men's team compound.

The event runs until August 2.

Weightlifter Cong breaks world record at Paralympic event

Weightlifter Le Van Cong broke the world record at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting Asian Open Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday.

In the men's 49kg event, Cong lifted 182kg to break his own world record of 181.5kg set at the Asian Para Games held in Incheon, South Korea last October.

Cong, 31, defeated nine other weightlifters to win in his category.

In the men's 54kg, Nguyen Binh An set a new Asian record with a total lift of 183kg.
