The mural painting at Da Nang Airport, for which Thuy and her colleagues won the prize, was made with paints produced by French-based industrial paint producer Guard Industrie. The mural covers a pillar which is 7.4m in height and 6.4m in diameter with bright images of plants and flowers.

At the same event, painter Thuy also won a consolation prize for her ‘Love Heart for Hanoi’, a heart-shaped sculpture decorated with millions of ceramic tiles placed by Truc Bach Lake in downtown Hanoi.

The two prizes are in the same "Society and Design for Environment" category at the IDA.

The IDA, established in 2007, is held annually in Los Angeles, with the aim of recognising, honouring and promoting legendary design visionaries and uncovering emerging global talents in architecture, as well as interior, product, graphic and fashion design.

This year’s competition attracted more than 1,000 entries sent from architects and designers from 52 countries throughout the world. Winners of this year’s event were honoured at a ceremony on June 10 at the A D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles.
