The Palais-Royal is located in the 1st district of Paris, France. First built in 1622 as a residence for Cardinal Richelieu, it briefly served as the official residence of the French royal family. The site currently houses several French government offices, including the Council of State, the Constituent Assembly, and the Ministry of Culture. Part of the property is also used as a performance venue by the French Theater.
Quang Dai chose the palace to conduct the exhibition because there is a connection between tradition and modernity.
The exhibition's title "How are you these days?" was painted on the gallery's stained glass window in Vietnamese, English, and French. Its message is to use dialogue to build connections between individuals. The works in the exhibition are made of synthetic fibers, resins, and handcrafted finishes to create the feeling of being molded with clay in many colors, evoking many emotions.
At the age of 8, Quang Dai was not appreciated for his creativity, which made him wonder whether he was limited by stereotypes. Therefore, through the exhibition, the model wanted to reveal the message that each person should liberate himself and expand his self-definition because human nature cannot be suppressed and creativity has no limits.
The exhibition "How are you these days?" was held in Vietnam and Thailand with 13 versions last year. The exhibition attracted nearly 60,000 visitors and generated more than 112 million reactions on many online platforms.
Quang Dai is also the first Vietnamese artist to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Bangkok and has been featured on Nowness Asia - a global platform to introduce and share interesting projects related to Asian culture/art.
Quang Dai was one of 23 artists from many countries participating in the "Figures 2023" exhibition at the CICA Museum in South Korea in August 2023.
