New records were set in swimming, diving, and weightlifting.
Swimmer Pham Thanh Bao broke two SEA Games records in the men's 100m and 200m breaststroke events, with his achievement being quite close to the standard B of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
In the diving event, Vietnamese athletes broke eight records to claim a total of 14 gold medals at the competition. Of them, Nguyen Tran San San won two golds and set one new SEA Games record. San finished first in the women's 800m surface with a time of 7min 19.18sec, which was a new best at the Games. It was San's second gold and second record in the tournament having previously own in the 400m surface on May 13.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese weightlifters Tran Minh Tri and Nguyen Quoc Toan broke four SEA Games records. Most notably, Quoc Toan broke two records in the snatch (155kg) and clean and jerk (190kg). In total, his result of 345kg was his and the Games' third new record.
The Vietnamese delegation shot straight to the top of the medal tally with 136 gold, 105 silver, and 114 bronze medals at SEA Games 32, beating their own set target of winning between 89 to 120 golds and achieving a top-three finish.
