VietNamNet Bridge - The bamboo house of Vietnam that won the AR House Awards 2014 has been written about in Time magazine’s “intelligent house” page.

The bamboo house project called “Blooming Bamboo Home", which can survive natural disasters in Vietnam, was designed by H&P Architects. it won the Highly Commended Award in a competition with over 200 architectural projects from all over the world.

The awards ceremony was held in London on June 18. Earlier, this work had ranked second in the top 10 most innovative bamboo designs worldwide in 2013.

AR House Awards is a famous international architectural award held annually by the British longstanding architecture magazine Architectural Review, honoring the best architectural works of the year.

As one of the top three countries most vulnerable to natural disasters, living with floods is a difficult reality for many in Vietnam.

Aiming to create a structure that can survive floodwaters, architects of the firm H&P Architects, designed the “Blooming Bamboo Home.”

The bamboo home design is based on modulated bamboo sticks put together in simple, but secure methods to enable the house to survive flooding of up to 1.5 meters. Research is currently underway to design a structure that can stand strong against 3-meter high waters.

The bamboo house’s use can vary based on need (housing, education, medical, etc.), size and material (bamboo, palm trees, coconut leaves, etc.), depending on the climate and condition of the region. Each house can be built within 25 days at a cost of $2,500.
